Restoration

Nehemiah recorded the reconstruction of the wall of Jerusalem, Judah’s capital city. Together, he and Ezra, who led the spiritual revival of the people, directed the political and religious restoration of the Jews in their homeland after the Babylonian captivity. So give this book of Nehemiah is a good prayerful reading. The walls were built in 52 days (Nehemiah 6:15). It will take at least that much time to get your defenses back up. But even then the enemy can get in through any unguarded gate, so you have to continue to be watchful and alert. In the final chapter of Nehemiah we find that many years later the people had furnished an apartment for an enemy in the temple of God (Nehemiah13:4-9). Anyway, the main thing is to develop a close and intimate relationship with the Lord during your recovery, and He will alert you to all the schemes of the enemy and all the tricks he uses to get into your life, and how to kick him out wherever he might get a foothold.
The book of Nehemiah shows us the kind of significant impact one individual can have on a nation. Nehemiah served in secular offices, using his position to bring back to the Jews order, stability, and proper focus on God.
God uses all manner of people in all manner of places doing all manner of work. Do you feel you must be “in ministry” in order to serve God? Be encouraged; He is not limited by your vocation. In fact, God has placed you where you are for a purpose. Have this attitude about your work: “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father” (Colossians 3:17).
Without the miraculous intervention of God, the temple and the walls of Jerusalem would not have been rebuilt. Divine guidance stood behind everything, even the actions of human kings and Jewish leaders. The restoration was no stroke of luck caused by beneficent Persian political policy. Rather, it resulted from the intervention of Israel’s God in the arena of human history”
We will see the same thoroughness in Nehemiah's work and service. God is interested in building His kingdom on earth. He wants to build it through us. We typically lack this vision He has for us. We just want to get by comfortably. God sent Jesus into the world to bring us one big step further. He wanted us to get eternal life, a life known for its enduring as well as its righteous character. He has called us to join Him in His kingdom building work. Application Let me ask you. Are you thinking about what God wants to do in your life or mostly focusing on what you want in life? God, if He is your father, pledges to discipline us for your good. If we see God like Nehemiah, we should know that it is not just that God is angry because you have violated His principles of life, but that the consequences of doing it on you and others will be disastrous. He wants you to turn to His loving truth. He wants you to trust Him rather than get bitter.
But He wants something more I believe. As I look at this people, I found that they started going back to their evil ways after Nehemiah left. I would wish that we would bring God's truth right inside our hearts. We can act immaturely all our lives with a strike here and there. But God's intent is that you grow up. Growing up as a Christian means that you take His truth an treasure it within your heart. So even if your circumstances change, you move home, you wrestle with difficult decisions, you will be faithful.
God is still in complete control of the affairs of nations, his people and is working out details according to His will and purpose. God seeks to draw us back and to rebuilt our broken down lives. God never forgets his people when they wander away from Him. He is a gracious and kind God and they is a an outpouring of the Holy spirit available for us all.
